Common questions
How do I check a used tonometer is accurate?
Ask when it was last calibrated or verified and whether a calibration check tool is included. Sellers can tick "Calibrated in the last 12 months".
Are single-use tips included?
Check the listing. Rebound and applanation tonometers need probes or prisms; ask the seller what is included and where to buy more.
Which type is best for my practice?
Non-contact tonometers suit fast screening by staff; applanation is the clinical standard; rebound tonometers are portable and need no anesthetic. Many practices use more than one.
