List this itemBuying guide: Lab equipment
Lab equipment such as edgers, generators, tint units and inspection systems is a major purchase, and used or refurbished machines can cost a fraction of new. The key questions are condition, service history and how it will get to your lab.
What to check before you buy
- Year, hours or cycle count, and whether it has been serviced or calibrated recently.
- A video of the machine running a job, and photos of the serial plate.
- Software version, licenses and whether they transfer to a new owner.
- What is included: tracer, blocker, chucks, wheels, manuals, power cords.
- Voltage and power needs, weight and size, and whether it needs freight with a liftgate.
- Warranty, returns, and whether the seller can help with setup.
Common questions
Is it safe to buy used lab equipment?
It can be, if you check its condition first. Ask for a video of the machine working, service records and the hours or cycles. Every EyeCareDirect seller is a verified professional or supplier, and every order has a 72-hour window after delivery to report a problem.
What is the difference between used and refurbished?
Used equipment is sold as it came out of service. Refurbished equipment has been inspected and repaired, with worn parts replaced, usually with a warranty. Each listing states its condition and any warranty.
How is heavy equipment shipped?
Large machines usually ship by freight on a pallet, often with a liftgate for delivery. Sellers can tick "Can be crated or palletized for freight", and many also offer local pickup.
Does the software license transfer with the machine?
It depends on the manufacturer. Ask the seller whether the software and any licenses transfer and whether the machine needs to be re-registered.
