List this itemBuying guide: Lab consumables
Lab consumables are bought again and again, so the savings add up. Most are sold as new, sealed stock, often as overstock or closeouts from labs that changed equipment.
What to check before you buy
- That the item fits your machines: blocking pads, laps and edging wheels are made for specific blockers, generators and edgers.
- Expiry or manufacture dates on chemicals, tints, polishes and adhesives.
- Pack size and unit count, so you can compare price per piece.
- Unopened packaging, and how the seller stored temperature-sensitive products.
- Shipping rules for chemicals: some can only travel by ground.
Common questions
Are lab consumables on EyeCareDirect new?
Most are new, unopened stock. Each listing states its condition, and sellers can tick "Sealed in the original packaging". Ask the seller for dates on anything that ages, such as chemicals and tints.
How do I know a blocking pad or edging wheel fits my equipment?
Check the listing for the machines it fits and match it to your blocker or edger model. If it is not stated, message the seller before you buy and ask for the part number.
Can I buy consumables in bulk?
Yes. Suppliers can set a quantity and quantity pricing, so the price per unit drops as you buy more. Sellers can also accept offers on larger orders.
Can chemicals and dyes be shipped anywhere?
Some lens chemicals and dyes have carrier restrictions and may only ship by ground within the US. The listing shows the shipping options; ask the seller if you need air shipping.
